ARSENSORB® for Arsen removal Arsenic is widely distributed throughout the earth's crust. Arsenic contamination is largely the result of minerals from weathered rocks and soils wich become dissolved in ground water.
Tasteless and odorless, arsenic is highly toxic and carcinogenic. Long-term exposure to even low levels has been proven to be detrimental to human health. Arsenic in drinking water has been linked to cancer of the bladder, lungs, skin, kidney, nasal passages, liver and prostate. Ingestion of arsenic can also have non-cancer effects in the cardio-vascular, pulmonary, immunological, neurological and endocrine systems.
In January 2006, the nationally mandated maximum contaminant limit (MCL) for arsenic in drinking water was lowered to 10 microgramms per liter (or 10 ppb). In the United States, there are over 4,000 municipalities that have drinking water with higher levels of arsenic than this maximum containated limit (MCL). Additionally, there are 500 million homes worldwide with private wells that exceed the MCL.
ARSENSORB® Arsenic Removal Technology A cost effective solution to meet the new arsenic standard for drinking water.
Overview
ARSENSORB®'s "High Efficiency Ion Exchange for Arsenic Removal" treatment system consistently removes arsenic to levels below the MCL in drinking water, regardless of water quality. This consistency assures reliable blending capabilities. Our system produces very low waste residuals, between approximately 0.01% and 0.5% depending on the contaminated treated. No pH adjustment is needed and performance is not affected by silica. Treatment systems can also be designed to remove vanadium, chromium & uranium and can be deliverd within 4-6 weeks. WATCH Water has numerous systems in operation with treatment capacities ranging from 10 to over 1000 m3/h.
The Arsenic challenge. When the EPA lowered the drinking water standard for arsenic from 50µg/l to 10µg/l, thousands of municipal and private wells did not meet the new standard. ARSENSORB® has been designed to make compliance safe, easy and affordable.
The ARSENSORB® difference. ARSENSORB® is a selective resin developed to remove arsenic (arsenate and arsenite) from water. ARSENSORB® is a unique combination of arsenic selectiviv hydrous iron oxide chemistry with a very durable polymer substrate. This ideal blend of selectivity and durability means that ARSENSORB® can reliably and efficiently reduce arsenic to safe consumption levels.
ARSENSORB® advantages:
Proven iron chemistry assures arsenic removal performance
Durable polymer nature provides:
- No fines, no backwash, no maintenance headaches - Easy regulation significantly lowering life-cycle costs - Each reuse/regeneration of the resin lowers the overall cost of the water treatment.
Macroporous substrate with large surface area for rapid kinetics and high capacity.
Passes Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP)
All spend iron media pass TCLP but are known to leach arsenic under actual landfill conditions. WATCH takes back spent media for disposal or regeneration, eliminating long-term landfill liability.
Arsenic impacts on human health:
Keratosis
Black foot disease
