Introduction
CATALYTIC CARBON-MG is the most emerging technology for the removal of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) is Watch Water’s adsorption treatment technology Catalytic Carbon-MG, which is Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) activated carbon with an MGO surface. This means Catalytic Carbon-MG is the only granule-based material available in the market with a highly positive surface, which is very important to break down a long chain of perfluorinated compounds. It offers for direct degradation of Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) and removal of PFOA equal to 95%.
PFOA and PFOS are members of a chemical group known as perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs). When PFOA and PFOS contaminated water passes through the Catalytic Carbon-MG, the activated carbon granules trap the micro-contaminants like dissolved chemicals.
Applications
Catalytic Carbon-MG can be regenerated on site, by applying our SolarOxy-3C oxidant (powder oxidant), which allows it to have a lifetime between 2 to 5 years

QUESTIONS
CATALYTIC CARBON MG® is an advanced magnesium-stabilized catalytic activated carbon (MgZVI/AC) developed by Watch Water® GmbH, Germany. It combines Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) and magnesium surface modification on coconut-based activated carbon, creating an extremely reactive surface for adsorption and catalytic destruction of PFAS compounds such as PFOA, PFOS, and PFHxA.
PFAS (“forever chemicals”) resist biological, chemical, and thermal degradation. Conventional methods like RO or nanofiltration only concentrate PFAS, creating costly waste brine. CATALYTIC CARBON MG® was created to safely capture and degrade PFAS using a reusable adsorber + oxidative regeneration approach.
Adsorption: Negatively charged PFAS molecules are captured by the positively modified ZVI/Mg surface.
Regeneration: Using SUPEROXY®, a sulfate-radical oxidation system, PFAS are broken down into CO₂, H₂O, and fluoride ions—fully destroying pollutants and restoring the carbon.
This makes the treatment adsorptive, regenerative, and destructive.
SUPEROXY® is a regenerant combining Oxydes-P and Titansorb-P (TiO₂) to generate sulfate and hydroxyl radicals under UV or solar light. These radicals break PFAS’ C–F bonds, clean the carbon surface, and allow re-activation for up to 5 years.
Standard regeneration cycle:
- Backwash: 5 min
- Suction of 1% SUPEROXY® solution: 30 min
- Rinse: 10 min
- Return to service: 45–60 min total
