Silver Impgregnated Activated Carbon

Introduction

ACTIVESORB-AG is a silver-impregnated coconut shell based granular activated carbon specifically designed and made for bacteriostatic properties that avoids microorganism growth inside purifiers and trace removal. It is a catalytic, high activity granular activated carbon manufactured by steam activation of selected coconut shells under rigidly controlled conditions.

The silver impregnation of carbon ACTIVESORB-AG imparts bacteriostatic properties that inhibit bacterial growth on the carbon filter media. Silver exhibits a self-sterilizing property called the oligodynamic effect that is recognized as an effective method for controlling microbial growth in drinking water application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

ACTIVESORB-AG® is a silver-impregnated coconut-shell granular activated carbon (GAC) designed to prevent microbial growth inside filters and purifiers. It combines high-activity catalytic carbon with bacteriostatic silver, providing dual action — adsorption of contaminants and inhibition of bacteria, mold, and biofilm formation.

Silver is well known for its oligodynamic effect — the ability of small amounts of silver ions to suppress or destroy microorganisms. In ACTIVESORB-AG®, silver is bonded to the carbon surface, which prevents bacteria from colonizing the media and keeps filters hygienic even during long service periods.

  • ☛ Removes chlorine, odor, color, and organic impurities
  • ☛ Improves taste of water
  • ☛ Prevents bacterial growth inside the filter bed
  • ☛ Reduces biofilm formation in long-term use
  • ☛ Rapid dechlorination and high adsorption capacity
  • ☛ Ensures clean, odor-free, and microbiologically safe water
  • ☛ Point-of-Entry (POE) and Point-of-Use (POU) filters
  • ☛ Residential and household water purifiers
  • ☛ Pharmaceutical and medical water systems
  • ☛ Food & beverage processing
  • ☛ Drinking water dispensers, coffee machines, and coolers
  • ☛ Aquarium and laboratory polishing units

Silver ions on the carbon surface interfere with microbial cell enzymes and DNA, stopping reproduction and metabolism. This bacteriostatic property:

  • ☛ Prevents slime or odor inside filters
  • ☛ Reduces need for chemical disinfectants
  • ☛ Extends filter life and maintains water quality

Yes. Silver is used in trace quantities (0.01–0.05 %) and is firmly bonded to the carbon surface — no leaching occurs under normal operating conditions. The product meets international safety standards for drinking-water treatment.

  • ☛ Rinse before use until water runs clear.
  • ☛ Maintain 25–35 % freeboard for backwashing (if in large vessels).
  • ☛ Operate in down-flow configuration for best performance.
  • ☛ Replace or regenerate media once adsorption or dechlorination efficiency declines.
  • ☛ 25 kg (55 lb) bags
