WATCH DOSING SOFTENER

INTRODUCTION

WDS is a strong complexing agent. The performance of the Watch DosingSoftener is higher and the advantage for customers is that they are most cost effective.

The excellent ecological and toxicological properties of the WDS have regularly been confirmed in a wide variety of studies. They are absolutely NONTOXIC.

Watch therefore recommends the WDS as replacements for other less environmentally friendly softeners such as ion exchange, phosphates, phosphonates, zeolites and silicates etc.

Watch team of experts is always pleased to give advice on adapting WDS.

Properties & Chemical Nature

The active ingredient contained in the WDS is the trisodium salt and alaninediacetic acid.

pH:	10,5
Calcium binding capacity:	160 mg
	CaCo3/ gt.q
Solubility in water:	Miscible in all proportions

Complex formation

The most important property of the WDS is his ability to form water- soluble complexes with polyvalent ions (eg. Calcium, magnesium, lead, copper, zinc, cadium, mercury, manganese, iron) over a wide pH- range from 2 to 13,5.

WDS usually forms 1:1 complexes i.e 1 mol of WDS complex binds to 1 mol of metal ions.

These complexes remain stable, especially in alkaline media and even at temperatures of up to 120°C.

The WDS is the best choice when it comes to finding a readily biodegradable complexing agent for dissolving calcium and magnesium scale.

Important

There is a need for phosphates and phosphonates to be replaced in many applications because of issues concerning the effects of phosphorus compounds on aquatic life and water quality.

Phosphates, phosphonates and other water soluble polymers are often used to prevent calcium carbonate from precipitating and forming scale. These substances act by temporary delaying the onset of crystallization.

Water softeners such as Watch Dosing Softener act differently, because they prevent salts from precipitating and forming scale by sequestering the calcium ions.

Ecology and Toxicology

Watch Dosing Softeners have an excellent ecological and toxicological profile and there are no restrictions on their use in applications like:

The active ingredient contained in the WDS (see MSDS) is classified as being readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria.

Safety and Handling

WATCH Dosing Softeners are much different than the products available in market like.

WATCH Dosing Softeners are chemical conditioning. Instead of replacing or removing calcium and magnesium it is possible to make them less available for formation of deposits and it stops corrosion, scale and bacteria groth in pipes, boilers, cooling towers. You don't need a softening unit which creates lots of health risks. Softening can be done by adding WATCH Dosing Softener to the water in a liquid form with dosing pumps. The effect of this to cause the water to behave in some ways as if it has been softened, (without phosphats and silikats). With this the water has been totally softened by the proper definition with respect to removal or replacement of calcium and magnesium.

The WATCH Dosing Softener can be easily administered to the water by installing an above dispenser in the pipe-work, convenient to treat all the water entering.
