Application
Domestic Applications
In domestic applications, all the dosing phosphates are disposed via the drains to the sewage system and then into watercourses. As all those dosing phosphates are not biodegradable in municipal waste plants, they all end up in the water system. For this reason there are concerns about the domestic use of dosing chemicals. ENVIRODOS® in contrast is completely biodegraded / mineralised to carbon dioxide, water and nitrates in the waste plant
Industrial Applications
For large industrial applications there is the possibility for removal of non-biodegradable phosphonates in the water treatment plant although this can add significantly to plant costs. In some pulp plants where the concentration of phosphonates is high there is evidence of biodegadation occouring, leading to some removal of phosphates prior to discharge into watercourses. In most cases, however, the ultimate fate is discharge into the environment. ENVIRODOS® is biodegraded in water treatment plants and so nothing goes into the environment
Agriculture Applications
In agriculture all the chemicals are applied to plant and soil with no clean up possible. Non-biodegradable chemicals will either remain in the soil or will be washed off into streams and rivers. ENVIRODOS® in contrast is rapidly biodegraded and no residues remain. The total usage of phosphates in agriculture was 2,7 Mio tons in 2007 and all this will be ultimately released to the environment albeit highly dispersed. |
